Who We Are

The Collective

Nawi is led by the Executive Director who provides strategic leadership and visioning for the collective. She is supported by 6 Core Team members, referred to as the Mothership, who work to support the day-to-day operations of the Collective.

The collective also has 11 Nawi Associates, who contribute meaningfully to Nawi’s vision. Nawi Associates bring their technical and creative skills and lived experiences as Pan-African feminists (and working women), fostering continuous learning and mutual growth that enrich both the associates and the collective. Nawi associates may be contracted to deliver specific pieces of work for the collective, but this work will be done collaboratively in a manner that builds the associate and the collective in tandem. Their engagement doesn’t end with individual projects; they remain an integral part of Nawi, committed to nurturing a feminist community working to deconstruct and reconstruct macroeconomic policies, narratives and actions using a pan African feminist lens.

The collective also includes Friends of Nawi, who flow in and out of the Collective to work with us on specific areas of work such as strategy/governance, transition management, and sometimes technical pieces of work such as technical analyses on various thematic areas such as Care and Social Reproduction and the AfCFTA.

Advisory Council

Nawi has an advisory council that provides governance oversight and reflective leadership; the members are women who bring intersectional feminist perspectives, represent different regions of Africa, and mirror the diversity of African working women. Within the Advisory Council, we have linguistic and geographic diversity.
